A McLellan family household of at least 10 members residing in the district of York (New Brunswick) was recorded in 1901. The head of household, Joseph McLellan, was born in "C B N Ser" in 1845. He identified his heritage as Scotch. By 1901, at the age of 55, he had an occupation that was recorded as "Farmer". Joseph's wife was Leonia McLellan, who was 46 years old. Leonia was born in New Brunswick in 1855. She also identified her heritage as Scotch. Joseph and Leonia had 8 children, 3 boys and 5 girls. In 1873 their eldest child, a boy named Edward, was born. Five years later, in 1878, when Joseph was 33 years old and Leonia was 23 years old their second child, this time a daughter, who was named Mary, was born. Then, in 1881, with their two children ages 8 years and 3 years, their third child, James, was born. In 1901 another daughter, their fourth child and second girl, Ruth, was born. With four other children in the household, their fifth child and third girl, Jane, was born in 1885. She was followed by 3 more children: their daughter Lizzie, born in 1887; their son John, born in 1890; and their daughter Rubie, born in 1895. Thus, at the time of the 1901 census, this McLellan family household was filled with 8 children whose ages were 5, 10, 13, 15, 17, 20, 22, and 27 years.
