Apostle Name Meaning

Americanized form of Greek Apostolos. Americanized form of Spanish and French Apostol or German Apostel. These were generally derived from nicknames for a man of serious, pious demeanor, though Bahlow suggests that the German name may have denoted one who played the part of an apostle in the passion play.
