Arlington Family History
Arlington Name Meaning
English: habitational name from any of the three places called Arlington in Devon Gloucestershire and East Sussex. Earlier forms of the placenames show that each contains a different Old English personal name (respectively Ælfheord Ælfrēd and Eorl(a)) + -ing- denoting association with + tūn ‘settlement’). The name may also derive from Harlington in Yorkshire with loss of initial H- which contains the Old English personal name Herela + -ing- denoting association with + tūn ‘settlement’.
