Turkish Bosniak Croatian and Serbian: nickname from Turkish biber ‘pepper’ (also a loanword in Bosnian Croatian and Serbian) probably denoting a small person or a person with a hot temper. In Serbia the name may in part be of Romanian or Wallachian origin from biber ‘beaver’ a word of German origin (see Bieber compare 1 above).
