German: from a pet form of the personal name Burkhard (see Burkhart ). German: variant of Butz . In some cases also a Germanized form of Slovenian Buč: probably a topographic name from buč ‘well in the field’. The surname Buč is very rare in Slovenia. In some cases possibly also a Germanized form of Croatian Buć or Buč (see Butch ).
