Courtier Family History
Courtier Name Meaning
French: habitational name from any of the places called Courtier (Seine-et-Marne Alpes-de-Haute-Provence) or Courtière (Loir-et-Cher). French: occupational name or perhaps a nickname from Old French courtier ‘arbitrator judge’. English (Devon and Cornwall): from an agent derivative of Middle English curt ‘large house’ (see Court ) probably denoting someone who worked or lived in a manor house or castle rather than a courtier (Middle English courteour courtyer) which has influenced the spelling.
