Irish: Anglicized form of Gaelic Mac Dhuibh, a variant of Mac Duibh ‘son of the black one’ (see Duff). Irish: approximate translation of Gaelic Ó Doirnín (see Dornan). Cornish: nickname from Cornish cuf ‘dear’, ‘kind’.
