German: habitational name for someone from any of the places called Dobl (Bavaria) Dobel (Baden-Württemberg) or Döbel (former Pomerania). North German (also Döbler): nickname for a dice player from an agent derivative of Middle Low German dob(e)len ‘to throw dice to play (cards or board games)’.
