Slovenian: probably a topographic name from dob ‘oak’ or from Old Slavic dobr ‘wood’, ‘forest’. This name is found mainly in the foothills of the wooded mountains of Dobrca in Gorenjska region, northern central Slovenia. Jewish (eastern Ashkenazic): metronymic from the Yiddish female personal name Dobre, a derivative of a Slavic word meaning ‘good’.
