Scottish: variant of Dunnet a habitational name from Dunnet in Caithness. English: from the Old French personal name Donet Donat from Latin Donatus (see Donat ). Donatus was the name of several Christian saints and was popular in France and Italy whence it may have been brought to England. English: habitational name from Downhead in Somerset or Donhead in Wiltshire both named from Old English dūn ‘hill down’ + Old English hēafod ‘head end’.
