English: variant of Elwick a habitational name from either Elwick in Belford (Northumberland) or Elwick in Hart (Durham) from the Old English personal name Ella (or in the case of the second possibly an unattested Ægla) + Old English wīc ‘outlying (dairy) farm’. Americanized form of Serbian and Croatian Ilić (see Ilic ) and possibly also of Jelić (see Yelich ). Compare Elich and Ellick .
