The Ó Gibealláin were a prominent ecclesiastical family in County Roscommon during the 13–14th centuries. French: shortened form of Gibelin from a pet form of an ancient Germanic personal name formed with the element gib a variant of geb ‘gift’ (see Gebhardt ).
