In England this name was introduced by the Normans. Irish: generally of English origin (see 1); but sometimes also used as a variant of Hardiman, an Anglicized form of Gaelic Ó hArgadáin (see Hargadon). Jewish (eastern Ashkenazic): of uncertain origin; perhaps a nickname for someone with a copious or noticeable head of hair (see Haar).
