Hobbins Family History

Hobbins Name Meaning

English: from a variant of the Middle English personal name Hobin a rhyming form of Robin + genitival or post-medieval excrescent -s. In Kent the name may also be a shortened form of Hogben a nickname from Middle English huck-bone ‘hip bone haunch bone’. The origin of huck is obscure but it is probably from an ancient Germanic root huk- ‘to be bent’ and cognate with Old Norse huka ‘to crouch sit bent sit on the haunches’ and huck-backed ‘hump-backed hunched’. Compare Hobbs .
