Kobza Name Meaning
Czech, Slovak, and Hungarian: from Czech kobos, Hungarian koboz, a term denoting a kind of musical instrument resembling a lute (Turkish qopuz), hence a metonymic occupational name for a lutenist or a troubadour. The instrument was first introduced into eastern and central Europe by the Cumanian and Pecheneg people, and its use became widespread during the Turkish occupation of the region.
