Nagata Name Meaning

Japanese: ‘long rice paddy’; from a common place name. The majority of bearers today are descended from the Sasaki branch of the Minamoto clan, and took the name from a village in Omi (now Shiga prefecture). Listed in the Shinsen shojiroku, the characters are pronounced Osada or Choda by some families. All three versions are found in eastern Japan. The name is also found in the Ryukyu Islands.
