English (Worcestershire): metonymic occupational name from Middle English pouche ‘bag pouch purse’ probably used for one who made or sold such items. See Poucher . English (Worcestershire; of Italian origin): sometimes used to denote a member of the Society of Pulci or Pouche of Florence who were regular traders with medieval London. Polish: possibly a nickname for a shirker from a derivative of pouchylać się ‘to avoid one's duties shirk’.
