In France however the surname is at least in part of Italian origin (see 4 below). Catalan (Rigó): probably a Catalanized form of French Rigaud . Italian and Catalan (Balearic Islands): from the personal name Rigo a short form of any of various names formed with this element such as Rigoberto Arrigo (equivalent of Henry ) or Federigo (variant of Federico ).
