Scottish: habitational name from a small place in the former county of Perthshire called Rhynd, from Gaelic rinn ‘point of land’. German: probably a metonymic occupational name for a cattle dealer or butcher, from Middle High German rint ‘cow’. Jewish (Ashkenazic): from German Rind, Yiddish rind ‘head of cattle’, an ornamental name or otherwise from a house sign.
