Slovak and Rusyn (from Slovakia) (Roško): habitational name from Roškovce in the Zemplín region in eastern Slovakia or a Slavicized form of Hungarian Roskó (see 1 above). Slovak and Czech (Roško): perhaps a hypocoristic derivative of roh ‘horn’ or of the personal name Roch 1 Latin Rochus. Croatian (Roško): probably from a pet form of the nickname Rošo ‘red-haired’ (see Rosic ) or its cognate Roso Alternatively of the same origin as the name in 5 below. Croatian and Serbian (Roško): from a pet form of personal names beginning with Ro- (see Rodich ) or containing the syllable roš such as Juroš (from Croatian Juraj ‘George’). The surname Roško is very rare in Serbia and in Croatia it may alternatively be of Hungarian origin (see 1 above). Compare Roscoe .
