Schlup Family History

Schlup Name Meaning

German (Schlupp): probably a nickname from a Slavic word akin to Polish slup ‘pole’, ‘column’, applied as a nickname for a tall person. Perhaps also an altered spelling of South German Schlupf, a topographic name for someone living near a hole in a hedge or a fence, used as a shortcut, from Middle High German slupf, equivalent to Middle Low German slup, with the same meaning.
