English (Staffordshire and Cheshire): possibly a late variant of Sidlow itself perhaps from the unrecorded Middle English descendant of an Old English female personal name Sidulufu (formed in a regular way from sidu ‘custom modesty’ + lufu ‘love’) believed to be be present in the placename Sidlow Bridge in Horley (Surrey).
