Storer Family History
Storer Name Meaning
English: occupational name from Middle English storour storer a derivative either of Old French and Middle English store ‘store(s) stock provisions livestock’ or of Middle English store ‘kind of cloth’. Without contextual evidence it is impossible to know which senses applied to individual surnames. For example Joh's Storur de Lenton (1379) was a linen draper but other men with this name may have been in charge of provisions in a great house or monastery stewards who collected rents or humble herdsmen. English: sometimes perhaps a post-medieval pronunciation of Storey . The two names (see 1 above) may have been confused. South German: from a Bavarian dialect word störer denoting an unskilled workman i.e. a craftsman who was not a member of a guild.
