It therefore appears that the Norfolk place is the most likely origin of present-day surname. perhaps sometimes a habitational name from Wollerton (Shropshire) Wolverton (Buckinghamshire Hampshire Warwickshire Worcestershire) and Woolverton (Somerset). The Shropshire placename derives from the Old English personal name Wulfrūn + Old English tūn ‘farmstead estate’. The Buckinghamshire Hampshire Worcestershire and Somerset placenames derive from the Old English personal name Wulfhere + Old English connective -ing- + tūn. The Warwickshire placename derives from the Old English personal name Wulfweard + Old English connective -ing- + tūn.
