English: variant of Yarbrough or Yerbury with the latter being a habitational name from Yarberry in Banwell (Somerset). The placenames may have denoted a fortress (Old English burg) defended with stakes (Old English gerd gyrd ‘rod spar stick’) or have the same etymology as Yarbrough from Old English eorth-burg ‘earth-work’. This form of the surname is now rare in Britain.
