This is a database of the 1885 Territorial Census of New Mexico. The census included all counties in the territory and was partly paid for by funds provided by the Federal Government. The census was taken during two months starting the first Monday in June of 1885. The census contains schedules for population, agriculture, manufactures, and mortality. These records were transferred from the Census Department to the National Archives in 1944.
Like other censuses, this provides information on who was in a household and how they are related. It also provides birthplaces for parents and children, as well as estimated ages. The records contain:
- Enumeration district
- Birth month
- Birth year
- Relation to head of household
- Marital status
- Father’s birthplace
- Mother’s birthplace
