About Charters of Bury St Edmunds' Medieval Hospitals

This database contains the charters of four out of the six medieval hospitals of Bury St Edmunds. These four hospitals are St John's, St Nicholas, St Peter's, and St Saviour's. "The charters relate primarily to the endowment of the hospitals by the abbot and convent and by the local community, but there are also ordinances for the administration of the hospitals and for the establishment of chantries therein, and numerous admissions to corrodies in St Saviour's" (title page). In addition to these charters, the database also includes a few texts relating to these hospitals taken from the abbey registers.
