Japanese: written 星野 ‘star field’. It is a habitational name adopted by a family of Shintō priests of the Atsuta Shrine in Owari (now part of Aichi prefecture). Other families descend from the Taira and Minamoto clans. The name is also found in the Ryūkyū Islands.
