This surname has now died out in Britian. German: variant of Tengler . Probably also an Americanized form of North German Tüngler: habitational name for someone from Tunglen near Oldenburg (Lower Saxony) or alternatively a topographic name for someone living on a tongue-shaped piece of land from Middle Low German tungle ‘tongue’.
