My great-grandmother, Emma Ellena Yeadon, her sisters Tresselia and Maria, left for the States, late 1800's. Emma and Tresselia to Boston, Maria to New York. Looking for others of family, brothers Carteret, Alexander, sister Margaret. Family notes say Brookside, NS, but unable to find such a place. Any help appreciated.

Your great grandmother Emma would be a daughter of John G.Yeadon.He is buried in the Yeadon cemetery in Brookside N.S.Which is about 12 miles from Halifax,N.s
Brothers of Emma were William D.,Robert Alexander,Richard G. and George Cartaret.I do not Know all of the Sisters names but Tresselia is also buried in the Yeadon cemetery. The toaal family were said to include thirteen children. I live at Brookside on the site that was given to George G.'s father william who got it from his father- in -law William Drysdale.Send me your e-mail address if you wish more Yeadon information

My mother was Martha Isabel Yeadon of Spryfield, Nova Scotia. Came to Brookline, MA in 1923. Brothers, Carl, Foster Yeadon and nephew, Charles Amos came and settled in Swampscott, MA. Shirley (Yeadon) Goulden, of Nova Scotia is a member of the Spryfield Heritage Society in that area. Shirley has information on most of the Yeadon's. Other family names, "Bashford" from Northern Ireland. Please reply.

Hi Maria: I was interested in your posting about George Colquhoon, a cousin of Emma Mansfield. I found a reference to Ethel Mansfield as an heir to Maria Alvina Yeadon, in 1929, of Everett Mass., was this the same person, or was she a descendant of Emma? this Ethel Mansfield lived at Killingby Road, Putnam, Connecticu, in 1929. Emma Yeadon was the only member of that Yeadon family I did not have a marriage for. Can you privide me with any information on Emma Yeadon's marriage to the Mansfield, his first name and a date of marriage?
Emma's sister, Bessie Yeadon, married David Colquhoon in Halifax. My e-mail adress is
I have 11 children born to John George Yeadon and Mary Drysdale of Brookside, Emma's parents.

Hello, Iris,
Sorry for the delay in answering.
I have still to find any proof of Emma Yeadon's marriage to Christopher Smith, father of Ethel Tresselia Smith, though Ethel's birth certificate lists him as her father. Some time back someone, possibly Janet Johnson, said they had come across a divorce decree between Emma Yeadon and a Thomas Boutilier(I believe),in Mass., but I've not seen it. Supposedly Christopher Smith died before Ethel was born. Maria, Emma's sister, is buried in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Roxbury, MA, along with Emma and Ethel. Ethel:born July 23, 1890, Boston, MA,died Oct.30, 1979, Pawtucket, RI.Married William Nelson Mansfield, Sept.14, 1914, divorced in the 20's.I came across papers about the divorce recently but forgot to copy them, will on next visit to Fla.Child born:Barbara Adele Mansfield, b.April 22, 1917,d.Dec.13, 1999,Inverness, Fla., buried Grove St.Cemetery, Putnam, Conn. Barbara,"Bobbe", was my mother. William Nelson Mansfield, b.Oct.28,1891, Putnam, Conn.,d.May 8, 1959, Miami,Fla.,buried Miami,Fla..The Killingby Road address was, I believe, where Ethel and Bobbe lived with William's parents after the divorce. Hope this is helpful to you.

Thankyou, Maria for that information on your family. If you have been in touch with Janet Johnson, you probably have a handle on the Yeadons of Nova Scotia. Janet, as you see by this messgae board, is back doing research, and since she has some spare time on her hands, I am sure she will be looking for missing records on the Yeadons in the U.S.
Good luck with your research.

Iris, Do you have the reference for the probate that you were asking Carroll about. Did I give you a copy of that? I cannot find it in my files and it sounds really familar. Since the death is in Everette I thought maybe I had sent it to you. If you have it can you forward me the information. I am hoping to help Carrol with some of the problems here.

Brookside Yeadon and Smith connection

Just found Brookside (and the cemetary) on the web this evening for the first time. I then followed the links and found the Yeadon family message board. Wow.
My Grandparents were Leonard R. Smith and Grace Smith (nee Yeadon) and are barried in the Yeadon cemetary along with my grandmother's sister Vera Yeadon. My grandmother lived in an old white house across from the lake with her sister's cottage in the back yard at the edge of the brook.
I grew up spending three weeks every August there (and still miss it). I know the Yeadons lived next door and I grew up playing with Mike and Bill Yeadon (Mikey and Billie) (: (who would ALSO be in their 40's now).
Haven't spoken to them in over 20-25 years!
My father Lorne Smith died in 77 and his mother Grace died in 78 (my mother and I attended the funeral and were with Grace at the hospital when she passed on).
Dale, your name Dale rings a bell (from many many many years ago as a little kid). So does the name Geri or Jeri who I believe lived next door to my grandmother.
I'd love to hear back from you at my email address Dale.

mom is still in Ontario.

Hello, I have never met you, but remember your Dad, Grandmother and Grandfather well. I am Dale's brother. I live in California near Palm Springs.

Dale has just turned me on to this site where I saw your post.My Dad is Walter, brother of Grace. We would be second cousins.

I'll make this short but would like to tell you about one of the most exciting event in my life. As a Youngster I just could not believe a plane was landing on our lake. I rushed down to the dock as the plane approached. Lo and Behold your dad was at the controls. I was totally excited. I also was amazed by his models he built.

I would like to correspond re:family matters if and when you may be interested.
