John Davis (1805-1891) killed his brother in law for beating John's sister nearly to death. After that event John changed his surname and moved to Knox County, KY. The suspicion is that the former surname was either Griffin or Griffith, possibly La Griffin or La Griffith. He may have been from North Carolina. It is also possible that it was John's daughter.
This story was told to me from my dad and told to my cousin from her grandmother who was the granddaughter of John Davis, he confessed on his deathbed.
