The name may also be derived from Hallam in Sheffield (Yorkshire) sometimes called Hallamshire named from Old English hallum ‘(at the) rocks’ the dative plural of Old English hall ‘stone rock’ Old Norse hallr. English: possibly a variant of Allam with prosthetic H-.
