English: habitational name referring to places including Leam in Derbyshire Lyham and Leam in Northumberland or a lost place called Leem near Beeston in Norfolk. In Sussex it may have been for someone who lived by a drain or artificial watercourse (Middle English leme) or a habitational name from a lost place called Leme.
