This surname is also found in France (mainly Alsace in any of the two possible senses; see also 1 above) Hungary and Slovenia. In part this is a Gottscheerish (i.e. Gottschee German) surname originating from the Kočevsko region in Lower Carniola Slovenia (see Kocevar ). Compare Smuck .
