Italian (mainly Veneto): from the personal name Senno which may have arisen independently from the vocabulary word senno in the ‘sense wise sensible’ or alternatively as a short form of Bonsenno. Catalan (also Senó): habitational name from any of the places called Seno or Senó. Japanese: written 妹尾 also pronounced Senoo. It is a habitational name from Senoo-mura in Bitchū (now part of Okayama prefecture). The characters mean ‘younger sister’ and ‘tail’ or ‘lower slope’ and are used phonetically. The name is pronounced Seo farther west in Japan. Filipino: unexplained.
