Lošinj is an Adriatic island in western Croatia. It was once part of the Republic of Venice and then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire until 1918. From World War I to World War II the island was under Italian rule. In 1945 it was annexed by Yugoslavia and in 1991 left the Yugoslav Federation as part of Croatia.
