English: nickname for a tall man from Middle English heigh high(e) (Old English hēah); see also Hay English: occupational name for a seller of hay from Middle English hai hei (Old English hēg hīg). Jewish: variant of Heiman . Americanized form of German Haymann: unexplained. Probably also an Americanized form of German Heymann or Dutch Heyman .
