Hwang Name Meaning

Korean: written 황 in Chinese characters 黃 meaning ‘yellow’. This is the only Chinese character for the surname Hwang. He was a Chinese emissary who had been sent on a mission to Vietnam. He encountered heavy seas however and put ashore in Uljin county Korea (part of Kyŏngsang North province) to wait out the storm. Eventually he went to Korea and settled there in AD 2 Each of Hwang Nak's three sons were founding ancestors of their own clans and some of their descendants founded additional Hwang clans.
