Cocksedge Family History
Cocksedge Surname Meaning
From a lost or unidentified place-name derived perhaps from the Old English personal name Cocc (with the genitive singular -es) + either Old English (ge)hæg hege or hecg(e) all with the sense ‘hedge fence’ and referring to an enclosed piece of ground.
However, the place-name might be linked to Cockfield which adjoins Felsham where the Cocksedge family lived from at least the 13th century.
See Cockfield.
