Craker Family History
Craker Surname Meaning
English (of Norman origin): habitational name from any of the three places in Calvados, Oise, and Nord, France, called Crèvecoeur (‘break heart’) from Old French creve(r) ‘to break or destroy, to die’ + ceur ‘heart’, a reference to the infertility and unproductiveness of the land.
English (of Norman origin): there are also occasional examples where the name in 1 above is derived from French crève-cæur ‘break heart, heart-breaker’ used as a nickname for a philanderer.
The surname has probably been partly absorbed by Croker and Crocker.
Americanized form of German Kräker or Kraker and perhaps also of the same Dutch surname.
