From Daumeray (Maine-et-Loire) France. The initial D- was often regarded as a preposition and the name wrongly divided as De Aumari.

The preposition was later lost hence Amori Amory.

The name was probably then confused with Amery.

Alternatively, according to Morlet, it may be from Damery (Somme).
