Hounsham Family History
Hounsham Surname Meaning
Probably from Huntsham (Devon) though this cannot be certain as no medieval bearers have been found. The place-name is recorded as Honesham in 1242 and Hunesham in 1297.
The name derives from the Old English personal name Hūn (genitive Hūnes) + Old English hām ‘village homestead’ or hamm ‘enclosure water meadow’.
