Croatian and Serbian (Perić): patronymic from the personal names Pero and Pera, pet forms of Petar (see Peter). Slovenian (Perič): patronymic from Per, an obsolete short form of the personal name Peter, or from its pet form Pere (compare 3 below).

This is however also a Slovenized form of the Croatian and Serbian surname (see 1 above). Slovenian: from an obsolete pet form of the personal name Peter (compare Perz, Peritz, and 2 above).
