Pordage Family History
Pordage Surname Meaning
Apparently from Middle English potage ‘thick soup’ with abnormal development of the medial consonant reflecting the difficult interrelation of the words pottage, poddish, and porridge.
Alternatively, some examples may derive from Portbridge, a lost place in Dartford (Kent) which is recorded as Portebrig in 1365.
The place-name derives from Old English port ‘gateway, entrance’ + brycg ‘bridge’.
