Greek: possibly a nickname derived from Albanian shul ‘bolt of wood’ figuratively ‘brawny man’ and ‘tall dolt’. Americanized form of Lithuanian Šaulys (see Shaulis).
Scottish (Ayrshire): variant of Soule. This form of the surname is now rare in Britain.
