Stather Surname Meaning
Probably from a locality on the River Trent formerly known as Stather (Old Scandinavian stǫðvar ‘jetties landing-places wharves’) in the neighbouring parishes of Burton upon Stather and Flixborough (Lincs). It is attested in Burton Statheher (1208) and Flikesburgh Stather (1299).
Further records include Burton cum Stather (1343), Southstathere (in Burton parish 1347), and Northstather (in Burton parish 1502).
