Torabi Family History

Muslim (Iran): surname denoting descent from or association with someone called Torāb, a Persian form of the Arabic personal name Turāb ‘soil, earth, dust’.

In particular, it is associated with the first Shiite imam Ali, who was called Abū Turāb, meaning ‘Father of Soil/Dust’.

This title was given to Ali by the prophet Muhammad, who found him sleeping while covered with dust.
