Castleton Family History
Castleton Surname Meaning
English: habitational name from any of several places so called in Derbyshire, Dorset, Lancashire, or Roxburghshire, from Old English castel ‘castle’ + tūn ‘settlement, farmstead’. Castledon in Wickford (Essex) and Castleton in Danby (North Yorkshire) seem to be late names and therefore not likely sources.
There is no evidence for derivation from Castleton in Hundleton (Pembrokeshire) or Castleton in Saint Athan (Glamorgan).
