Gazzo Family History
Gazzo Surname Meaning
Italian: probably from the medieval Greek personal name Gatsos, a pet form of Georgatsos, a derivative of Geōrgios (see George). Alternatively, a nickname from Sicilian gazzu ‘blue-eyed’ (also ‘short-sighted’) or from Old Italian gazzo ‘deep blue’ (like the feathers of a magpie, Italian gazza).
It could also be a habitational name from Gazzo in Padova province, Gazzo Veronese in Verona province, or from a shortened form of Agazzo, from Late Latin Agathius, either a masculine form of Agata or from the analogous ancient Germanic personal name Agathio.
