Hoenigman Surname Meaning

Altered form of Austrian German Hönigmann: nickname for a beekeeper, a cognate of German Honigmann ‘honeyman’ (see Honigman). In part Hönigmann is a Gottscheerish (i.e. Gottschee German) surname originating from the Kočevsko region in Lower Carniola, Slovenia (see Kocevar).

As such it may (also) be a German translation of Slovenian Medic or possibly vice versa (compare Meditz). The surname Hoenigman is also found in Slovenia where it is very rare.
